Riding (not my horses) with my friend in Chorley, going towards Sidbury, we encounter a couple in some private woodland, the guy using his chainsaw is unaware of us, we slow our horses unsure of how close we are to him until sighted. The woman appears to be watching.
The dog belonging to them starts to bark & charge the boundary line towards us, ignoring his owner, comes through fence into the public road acting aggressive towards our horses. Attempts to greet dog are lost & it heads for our horse's legs snapping and trying to bite. Both horses react as expected, defense turns and avoidance but don't bolt. My ride readied to kick. My friend behind me is pushed into a deep ditch by the dog and responds accordingly to the owner who seems completely oblivious to the danger that her dog has caused on a public road and is quite verbally defensive towards us.
She's then tells US our horses shouldn't be out if we can't control them.. (pot, kettle, black, much?) despite the fact we're both still mounted, controlling said horses and I even shout down at the dog when he comes back in the absence of owner doing anything besides arguing with us.. at the end it seems she doesn't care if a horse kicks her dog in the head.. Charming..
Could have all been avoided with a long lead hooked up to a tree while they worked!
Public; your thoughts? Are we in the wrong?
(Horses uninjured by the way, thankfully)
