The Bullfinch - With his bright pinkish-red breast and cheeks, grey back, black cap and tail, and bright white rump, the male bullfinch is unmistakable. The flash of the rump in flight and the piping whistled call are usually the first indications of the presence of bullfinches. In the spring, they feed voraciously on the buds of various trees and were once considered a 'pest' of fruit crops.
