Energy efficiency is the gold standard! - with multiple benefits for people and the economy, such as lower energy bills, more jobs, less energy poverty, improved health and lower GHG-emissions. The next ten years are key to accelerate climate action and energy efficiency is essential. In theory, this is well known, BUT in practice not enough is happening to achieve necessary energy savings and reduce energy consumption.
This needs to change!
For the Energy Efficiency Directive we need an EU binding 2030 energy efficiency target of at least 45%. This means effectively lowering the EU`s energy consumption.
We need a meaningful role for public buildings, a strengthened Energy Savings Obligations to deliver more energy savings to final consumers and updated heating and cooling provisions. The aim should be to combine energy savings with moving away from fossil fuels and ensure increased deployment of sustainable renewables.
Let’s turn the Fit for 55 into fit for 1.5!
