#pruning #elderberry The first time I pruned our Elderberry bushes, I was a bit nervous and not very sure what to trim, cut, keep or remove.

You'll want to trim/prune your Elderberry bushes in the Winter when the plant is dormant, ensuring you don't hurt the plant.

I remove all existing stems that are more than 3 to 4 years in age, lopping near them as close to the ground as I can. I'll then trim the lateral growth from the prior years growth on all remaining shoots/stems.
