This session aims to encourage participants to think critically about what transparency is. Many link transparency to reporting and the international process. The webinar and subsequent discussion revise that statement and explain the actual connection to NDCs and ramifications at the national level. The contributors present the benefits of transparency identified in the paper “National Benefits of Climate Transparency” and real country cases of national benefits through transparency, highlighting the experiences in Peru and Vanuatu.
The Webinar is jointly presented by the UNFCCC’s Transparency Division and the Partnership on Transparency in the Paris Agreement (PATPA), who work in close collaboration to inform, advocate, and support on transparency issues among UNFCCC parties. Their most recent joint publication “Benefits of Climate Transparency” provides practical up-to date insights into the advantages for countries of developing robust transparency systems.
