750g mutton or lamb, cut into pieces
1 cup chana dal (split chickpeas)
1 medium lauki (bottle gourd), peeled and cubed
2 large onions, finely chopped
2 tomatoes, chopped
1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
2-3 green chilies, slit
1 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp red chili powder
1 tsp cumin seeds
2-3 tbsp oil or ghee
Salt to taste
Fresh coriander and mint leaves for garnish
Instructions:
Wash and soak chana dal for 30 minutes.
In a pressure cooker, heat oil/ghee and add cumin seeds.
Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
Add ginger-garlic paste and green chilies, and cook until fragrant.
Add chopped tomatoes, turmeric powder, and red chili powder. Cook until tomatoes are soft.
Add mutton/lamb pieces and sauté until the meat is browned.
Add soaked chana dal and cubed lauki. Mix well.
Add salt to taste and enough water to cover the ingredients.
Close the lid and cook on medium heat until the meat and dal are tender (about 15-20 minutes in a pressure cooker).
Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or naan.
