Two major floods in a year with loses over half a million ringgit has left a chicken breeder staring at uncertainty.
To make matters worse, 45,000 chicks which were barely a week old perished when flood waters completely submerged three poultry pens during the floods at Kampung Raja Songsang near here on Dec 19.
Farm manager A. Raja Rao, 42, said the floods last month caught him off guard as the water level was about 6m high until the roof of the chicken coops, compared to the floods in January last year which was about 3m high.
Raja, who started poultry farming in 2018, said despite being left heart-broken after the floods struck early last year, he remained determined to work hard and get the business back on track.
Raja and his family were travelling back from Kuala Lumpur on Dec 18 and they were trapped due to the the floods in Lanchang, Temerloh.
He said it was heart-wrenching to bury the carcasses as they needed to dig a deep trench and dispose of the dead fowls with a proper method including spraying antibacterial liquid.
On his next move, Raja hopes that the government will provide some type of aid to help them remain in business.
