This Video is the beginning of a series to assist viewers how to work with the different linux distributions. In this video you will learn how to hardening Ubuntu in a virtual machine.
What is OS Hardening?
Device hardening is the process of securing a computer or a network device by reducing it’s attack surface of vulnerabilities. It usually involves configuring the device’s software and settings to me it more resistant to cyber attacks, unauthorized access and other forms of security threats.
In this video our task will be to perform the following forms of hardening on Ubuntu.
• Update the OS
• Lock user accounts that are not used
• Remove root access
• Check for listening ports
• Stop unneeded services
• Remove unneeded services
• Turn off IPV6 because we won’t be needing it
By the end of this video, the viewer should be able to use the following commands correctly,
• Sudo –i
• Apt update & upgrade
• Sudo useradd
• Su user
• Whoami
• Date
• Tail & Head
• Passwd
• Nano
• Apt install
• Nmap
• Ip addr show
