Who is this man behind the bulletproof glass? Why is he just standing there?
The man from U.N.C.L.E. was one of the best television action series from 1960's which was the golden age of television. Two extremely talented actors played the leading roles. Robert Vaughn played the role of the American agent Napoleon Solo and David McCallum played the role of the Russian agent Illya Kuryakin. The characters played by these actors were exactly the opposite of each other and yet they complemented each other to make a buddy spy story work. Napoleon Solo was suave and daring while Illya Kuryakin was reserved and calculating. The Man from U.N.C.L.E. was also unique for pairing an American and a Russian at the height of the cold war.
What made this series a success was the talents of the lead actors and the screen writers for season 1. The first season of the series is considered the best of the entire series. The screen writers such as Alan Lyle Smith, Dean Hargrove and Pete Allan Fields wrote strong screen plays that set the right tone for the series. Their scripts were the right blend of action, adventure and humor. The show has stood the test of time and it still relates to the modern audience because according to Alan Lyle Smythe, "The pilot of U.N.C.L.E. was straight drama, no tongue in cheek. It was about espionage, about adventure, and this is my field."
