Here's a brilliant hit from one of my most fave Canadian bands of the early 70's...presented to you in its ORIGINAL, UNCUT FORM. I'm saying "uncut" because practically the only digital version available these days claims to be the LP version yet it fades out at around the 3:40 mark! The way the line at the end is repeated really brings the song to an incredible finish, and I don't see how they could even cut that out....unless it's because of the fact that it cuts directly to "Back Home" with no gaps of silence between the two tracks on the original album. So here it is - the tale of a foreigner from a distant planet and his struggles to fit into Earth's vast human civilization, as it was originally MEANT to be heard.
By the way, the turntable I'm using in this video is yet another thrift store find: a cheaper Fisher P-mount unit from the mid-late 80's. This is a turntable that proves that looks can indeed be deceiving, and in fact, if I were to show a picture of it to the good folks on AudioKarma, they would probably condemn it to the well-dreaded realm of "black plastic crap". Fear not - even though the unit is certainly cheaply built, being comprised mostly of plastic parts except for the platter, I was actually pleasantly surprised by how good it sounded when I hooked it up to my setup. It even has on-the-fly pitch adjustment, which I think is truly a necessity in any decent turntable.
When I got it, the stylus was bent in a direction where it probably would have ripped the living daylights out of ANY record it even slightly touched, but luckily I was able to get it back into shape with a pair of pliers. FINE pliers, that is. The original cartridge itself is a stellar performer, and I think it does much better at tracking higher frequencies than my trusty Audio-Technica AT92E. Then again, the stylus on the AT has had over two years of use. The only problem with the turntable itself is that spindle gear that drives the auto-return is cracked, so most of the time it has difficulty engaging the mechanism. I HOPE I have some glue around to fix it...

**PRECIOUS METALS**
Vinyl is all about physics. If you got tarnished wire, your music can’t travel from stylus to speakers without signal loss! I am fascinated with the properties of different metals, precious metals in particular. Gold & silver are beautiful, they store value, and they have wide industrial uses.
I put some holdings in gold and silver to protect my money. Why? Historical stability. They’re best for savings. This monthly savings plan makes it easy to add time-tested money to your Vinyl War Chest.
