Great blue heron parents feeding two babies "hatchlings" at Circle B Bar Reserve in Lakeland, Florida. Food is regurgitated directly into little mouths. Parents soften fish in their bills, then break up into smaller pieces. At base of nest parents will hold pieces steady for hatchlings to peck at and eat. After hatchlings eat what they can, parents finish off the meal, ready to regurgitate as needed. Interesting to see parents working together and bringing a variety of fish and even a swamp eel into the nest.
