💥 Back pain with deadlifts?
.
❌ Many individuals struggle to properly hip hinge during deadlifts or other hinging motions and end up flaring their low back. Now to be clear this isn’t because rounding your back with deadlifts is necessarily “bad”, but that most people with already sensitive low backs are flexion intolerant, and attempting to deadlift in a way that you are sensitive too and not adapted to is only going to make your situation worse. Not being aware of your positioning and just continuing to irritate it isn’t going to help anybody!
.
🔑 The key here is that by using a simple cue from a PVC pipe, broom handle, or any other stick-like object you can dramatically change the way your deadlifting/hinge feels! Keep this object in contact with the back of your head, your thoracic spine, and tailbone as you focus on pushing the hips back. This will keep you nice and straight and may feel better for you if you are trying to recover from low back pain!
