Cheese presses are sometimes quite costly when first starting to gather your cheese making equipment. So I reached out to two of the facebook cheesemaking groups that I'm a member of and asked them to share their cheese press creations for this video.
Here are the calculations for John's wall press;
Material: Hollow stainless steel bar. Dimension: 1x2 cm (Approx.)
The bar mounted on the wall with two/3 screws. Length: approx. 40/45 cm.
The press bar going to the cheese mould: length approx.. 45 cm.
Total length of the bar from the wall and to the hook: approx.. 120 cm
Distance from the wall to the press bar: 20 cm
The formula to calculate the pressing weight:
W1 = L2/L1 x W2
W1: weight on the cheese (pressure)
L2: total length of the bar
L1: distance between the wall bar and pressing bar
W2: the weight you hang on the hook
So, my pressing device will press with approx. 6 kg, if 1 kg weight is used. Plus the press of the weight of the device itself. (approx.. 2 kg.)
A big thank you to all who contributed to the video.
