In this, its 19th year, the Boston Wine Expo is the largest wine event in the country showcasing 450 wineries and 1800 different wines from around the world. With such a wide array of wines to sample (and sample again), participants arrived from all over New England ranging from casual wine drinkers to sommeliers at fine restaurants (to producers of local TV shows on wine & spirits...!)
A strong international presence was evident as several European countries were represented, including Italy, Greece, Portugal, Spain and France - all doing their best to make their case for drinking great wine.
And in addition to the vast sampling of wine, many unique wine related tools and accompaniments were featured with several providing an innovative approach at how to serve, store and pair wine. (Argon gas to safely store an open bottle of wine? Check. Chocolate made specifically to eat with and enhance wine? Check. An iPhone app to help make wine selections? Check...you get the idea.)
Whether to sample from the vast selection of wine, mingle with winemakers and industry professionals, or just enjoy a fun afternoon with friends, the Boston Wine Expo had something for everyone...so much so that we're already looking forward to next year...
But in the meantime, check out our entertaining segment on the event which was put together with some outstanding assistance by a couple new members of the French Oak team - editor Anthony Medel and jazz composer Brett Gladstone. Great stuff indeed! - RL
