In 1982 Atari developed a video game based on the movie E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. It was an adventure video game developed for their video game system the Atari 2600. The game was rushed through a short development period in order to reach the 1982 Christmas season. It received mostly negative reviews for its poor gameplay and graphics and is often referred to as the worst video game of all time.
There was an urban legend for many years after its release, that because of overproduction and poor sales, Atari secretly buried all the unsold and returned copies of the game. In 2014 people researching this claim located and excavated the supposed landfill. Although there were E.T. games found, they were a small percentage of all the Atari games and system components found. References to this can be found in the book Atari Inc.: Business Is Fun and the Documentary Atari: Game Over.

This video, although perfectly suitable for children, is not intended for current children. It is meant for adults who were children when the commercial and toys originated. My intent is to preserve or refresh the memories of childhoods from the past and present some enjoyable nostalgia.
