An icon of American thoroughbred racing, in 1973 Secretariat became the first racehorse to win the Triple Crown in 25 years.
A horse racing legend, Secretariat added further merit to his achievements claiming all three legs (the Kentucky Derby [Churchill Downs], the Preakness Stakes [Pimlico Racecourse] the Belmont Stakes [Belmont Park]) in record times.
'Big Red' transcended the sport of horse racing in America and even featured on the front of Time Magazine.
Jockey Ron Turcotte still remembers what it felt like to hold Secretariat's reins.
