The Black Mamba Anti-Poaching Unit is the first of its kind, being that the majority of their teams are women.
The main objective of the Black Mamba Anti-Poaching Unit is the protection of wildlife, but they also strive to educate the communities that live on the boundaries.
It is their belief that the war on poaching will not be won with guns and bullets, but through the local communities and education.
Whilst their basic Ranger salaries are subsidised by SANParks through the Environmental Monitor Program, The Black Mamba APU carry all additional costs and rely heavily on donations.
