These photographs show homes in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, in 1886 and the same houses today.
The black and white image is from 1886 and shows the recently completed Crescent Hotel in the background.
The next view was taken recently from the same location but the Crescent Hotel is hidden from view in the recent picture by trees.
The Crescent Hotel is billed as “America’s most haunted hotel.” The hotel was built in 1886 as a resort for the rich but fell into disrepair within just a few years. From 1908 until 1924, the hotel was home to the Crescent College and Conservatory for Young Women. For six years, the hotel in limbo. From 1930 until 1934, the hotel was used as a junior college. From 1934 until 1937, the hotel was used as a summer hotel. Since then, the hotel has had several owners.
Here is another view of the hotel just after its completion in 1886 and another more recent view.
You can see that another floor of rooms was added. What other changes did you notice?
