Alphonse Gabriel “Great Al” Capone (January 17, 1899 - January 25, 1947) was an Italian-born American gangster who operated in Chicago in the 1920s and 1930s. Under the cover of furniture business and dry-cleaning, he was engaged in bootlegging, gambling and pimping, as well as charity (opened a network of free canteens for unemployed fellow citizens).
A bright representative of organized crime in the USA of the Prohibition and Great Depression eras, which originated and existed there under the influence of the Italian Mafia, as well as the head of its Chicago branch.
