Phillip Sear plays the second of two 'Airs' from 1893 by the Russian composer Eduard Schütt.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Eduard (or Edouard) Schütt (1856-1933), though Russian-born, latterly lived in Vienna and Switzerland, and his own music is cosmopolitan in style. However, rather like that of Fauré, his music has some very distinctive harmonic and technical fingerprints that make it very identifiable. This piece with its sophisticated, wistful harmonies, hardly evokes rustic village life - rather village life as viewed from a gilded drawing-room of one of the composer's ultra-rich society patrons.
