Fetal kick chart is maintained to keep a track of your fetal movements. A good fetal movement is an indicator of a healthy fetus. Normally a woman starts feeling fetal movements at around 21 weeks of pregnancy when it is her first pregnancy and in a multigravida in two or more pregnancies we can feel a little earlier like 18 weeks, at that 18 or 20 weeks it is very gentle or fluttery or gas bubble like movements but as the pregnancy duration increases at around 26 weeks, these movements become very regular. Before this it will be very very irregular, some days you might feel fetal movements, some days you may not feel fetal movements, but after 26 weeks it is quite regular. We advise the women in an uncomplicated pregnancy to maintain the fetal chart at 30 weeks of pregnancy. In a complicated or a high risk pregnancy, tell them to keep account from 26 weeks to 38 weeks of pregnancy. It is not possible for a women to keep of fetal movements the while day. So what we suggest is as the baby has also its sleep pattern and awake pattern. So babies become more active after we eat, so we tell them to maintain your fetal movements after breakfast, after lunch and after dinner, if it is more than 10 to 15, nothing to worry. Another way to keep account of fetal movements is you start counting any part of the day, if you are getting more than 10 movements in 1 or 2 hours then nothing to do, further, it is all fine. This pattern of your baby’s movements, you have to keep account. If you see any deviation in the pattern of your baby’s movements, then you should be a little more alert and don’t be more panicky, just lie down on the bed before lying down have some sugary drink or sweet things and lie on the left side or the right side and keep your hands over the tummy ad feel the fetal movements. Even if you are not getting the fetal movements then you should meet your gynaecologist.
