"We are trying to put a big focus on the people that lost their art during the war. That is mostly Jewish art collectors. We are also focusing on the works that could be returned to the rightful inheritors."

"Hildebrand Gurlitt had many aspects to him and we are trying to show all these sides at this exhibition. This is also something that is common in the history of Germany. People had several sides during the Nazi time. People had one private side but also a side where they helped the system and became a part of it, and ended up doing things that they would not have done otherwise."

"We are mostly focusing on Hildebrand Gurlitt rather than Cornelius Gurlitt because Hildebrand is the person that actually collected the art works. The son, Cornelius Gurlitt, is a person that I personally think is a more of a tragic figure that never really knew what to do with this difficult inheritance."

LEADIN
Some 200 works from the trove of artworks found at the homes of Cornelius Gurlitt in 2012 are on display in the German capital Berlin.
Gurlitt's father had procured some of the works during the Nazi era, and the work to find the rightful owners to the paintings and sculptures is ongoing.
STORYLINE
It was a story that spread around the world.
In 2012, the authorities in Germany discovered almost 1500 artworks in an unassuming flat in Munich.
Later the police also found around 60 artworks in a house in Salzburg.
The owner of the homes was Cornelius Gurlitt, the son of the "art dealer of the Nazis" Hildebrand Gurlitt.
