Ay Me or The Symphony from Musick's delight on the cithren, 1666. Arranged for baroque guitar, and played by Richard Mackenzie.
This is the symphony (or introductory music) to the fifth song in James Shirley's court masque The Triumph of Peace, which was first performed in the Banqueting House at Whitehall for King Charles I in 1634.
This symphony was also popular as a country dance, and appeared in editions of John Playford's Dancing Master from 1651 onwards.
