Sometimes bad guitar tone is good! It’s all about context in the mix and the production as a whole. Sometimes isolated guitar tones might not be as pleasing when heard by themselves. In this video we’ll hear a demo of some “bad” tones then I’ll walk through each part and discuss how I got it and some thoughts around the production of the track/parts. Hopefully this will inspire you to explore some different tones and approaches. We’ll talk through a fixed wah as an EQ, direct guitar tone, out of tune chorus/vibrato sounds and more. Gear used in this video includes: Greer Amps custom pedal, Eventide H9, Smokey Amp, Buddha Wah, Fender Rhodes, 1176 clone, Strymon Iridium, Tweed Bassman clone, Two Notes Captor, Gibson J-45, Gibson Les Paul, Fender Stratocaster, and my own impulse responses.
