I'm fishing the neighborhood pond behind my house with one of my favorite soft plastics, the Z-Man Goat Toadz and Hard Leg Frogz. The colors I use most are The Deal, Red Bone, and Mud Minnow. I am mostly looking for something with a pearl belly to match the leopard and bull frogs that are in my area. .
I throw the Goat Toadz in calmer day time conditions. The Hard leg Frogz I opt for at night or in windy, or low light conditions because it makes more noise and causes more commotion on the water. These are a perfect substitute for the whopper plopper when you need a weedless presentation. You can throw them in the muck or deep cover that would otherwise snag a treble hook bait, plus they skip like a rock.
My setup in this video is a 7'3 H Dobyns Fury rod paired with a cheap quantum 6.1:1 Reel, 50lb braid, and a 4/0 EWG. I prefer to use a 7:1 reel for this technique but I was just rolling with what was already on the rod.
