The Tower of Babel is a story from the Book of Genesis in the Bible (Genesis 11:1-9) that explains the origin of different languages. After the Great Flood, humanity spoke a single language and settled in the land of Shinar. They decided to build a city with a tower that reached the heavens, symbolizing human ambition and unity. The purpose of the tower was to make a name for themselves and prevent their scattering across the earth. However, this act of pride and defiance displeased God. To thwart their plans, God confused their language, causing them to speak in different tongues and be scattered over the face of the earth. The unfinished tower was then called Babel, which means "confusion."
