Are we justified by faith alone or by faith and works? How does the Bible say we be justified (or declared righteous) in God’s sight? Mormons and Christians agree that we must be declared worthy to live forever with Heavenly Father in His Kingdom.

The LDS Church teaches that to be worthy, our faith must be accompanied by obedience to certain laws and ordinances like baptism and temple works. But Christianity teaches that we must be perfect to enter The Kingdom of Heaven. There's just one problem: no one is perfect!

But Scripture tells us that God provided a way for us to be declared worthy, or righteous, even though we're sinful. This is called Justification, and is the very heart of the Gospel. What a person believes about the doctrine of Justification is a central issue of the Christian Gospel.

Yet how is it that a guilty person could ever be declared not guilty? Mormonism says that its our faith plus our works that make us worthy in God's sight, but Christians believe that God justifies us as a gift to be received by faith.

Righteousness isn't something we earn, but something we receive by faith alone. We can be justified by faith alone on the basis of Jesus Christ's righteousness.

Philippians 3:9 - “...be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith”
