Believe it or not, between 1968 and 1970, Pink Floyd played each of Ummagumma's five studio tracks live - sometimes on extremely rare occasions ("Sysyphus" seems to have only been played once or twice), or just partially (with a piece of "Grand Vizier" being used for one of the two variations of The Man's "Doing It!").
"The Narrow Way" saw each of its sections performed live to some degree - and in this video, I present the best (or in part 1's case, ONLY) performances of each. Enjoy!
0:00 - Baby Blue Shuffle In D Major
[The Narrow Way Part 1]
Top Gear, December 15 1968
SOURCE: 'Let There Beeb More Light' (Maxwell Edison Records), with additional noise reduction and equalization
4:11 - The Labyrinths of Auximenes
[variation on The Narrow Way Part 2]
Concertgebouw, Amsterdam, September 17 1969
SOURCE: "Amsterdam '69" (Harvested)
* Though a recognizable version of Part 2's familiar riff was evidently never played live, this track contains elements of Part 2 - the rising and falling 'shimmer' effects, as well as the opening synth "scream" that resembles the segue between Parts 2 and 3.
7:42 - Behold The Temple Of Light
[The Narrow Way interlude]
Concertgebouw, Amsterdam, September 17 1969
SOURCE: "Amsterdam '69" (Harvested)
* This track is an expansion of the piece of music that bridges the album versions of Parts 2 and 3.
13:03 - The Narrow Way Part 3
Top Gear, May 12 1969
SOURCE: "Let There Beeb More Light" (Maxwell Edison Records)
* While using the Concertgebouw performance would've allowed for consistent sound quality, David's vocals are disastrous - the BBC performance is the best overall.
