9 out of 10 people with Sjögren’s are women.
Often characterised by dry mouth and dry eyes, Sjögren’s syndrome is an autoimmune disease where the glands that normally produce tears, saliva and sweat are attacked by immune cells. It can also affect other mucous membranes like the intestines and lungs. Garvan’s scientists use advanced techniques like single cell sequencing and flow cytometry to identify the molecular defects that cause this disease.
