No, you are not “going crazy” although there is something to the saying that “it’s all in your head”… menopause can be accompanied by a slew of emotional changes, including mood swings, sudden anxiety or rage and depression. These are interlinked with hormonal changes, hot flashes and sleep problems. Often these swings make you feel like your personality is changing during menopause.

In this episode we meet Lalaine. She first realized she was entering perimenopause when she found herself taking pregnancy tests because of her missed periods.
She experienced hot flashes and mood swings, both of which affected her at home and at work. Luckily, she had good support around her, allowing her to ride out her sudden mood changes without losing her confidence or her self-image.
Lalaine brings a calm and accepting energy to her perimenopause experience, drawing from her mother’s behaviour when her mother was experiencing this transition. In fact, using her mother as inspiration, she has been able to embrace the change and accept it as a natural part of life.
With this approach, she was able to focus on the good, especially the liberation from monthly periods and the severe cramping that went with them. Lelaine stays on top of her health, eating well and practicing self-care. This Filipina wisdom can help all of us as we navigate our own paths.
