Summary:
North America’s market for new medium and heavy trucks and buses has defied weakness in US truck tractor registrations, seemingly, and appears on track for demand to reach almost the same level in 2024 as in 2023. Beneath the surface, though, some of the drivers of demand have shifted, and questions remain on prospects for sales and production through the year 2027, when new diesel emissions standards are due to take effect. From a powertrain and electrification standpoint, new trends are evident both among vehicles with internal combustion engines and those with zero emissions propulsion solutions.
