✨Okay by now we know about the 'motivation myth' and that motivation comes from discipline and good habits.
But nonetheless, I'm going to tell you about the ways I 'tricked' myself into feeling more motivated before starting and while I was in medical school. 😌
1. Tv shows: Before Medschool I watched the only season of Emily Owens MD and I LOVED this show!! (It's unfortunately been canceled since, hmm I might rewatch it 😌)
I also loved scrubs and occasionally watched House (fun fact, I got a question right in pathology because of House M.D 😆) I didn't like Greys though.
2. Romanticizing my workspace by making my own doodle 'art', upcycling, having flowers/plants on my desk, it doesn't have to be expensive!
I also love collecting postcards and sticking them on my wall. 😌
3. Medical themed books: When I had placements in different specialties I would try to find a book related to said specialty and read it during my rotations, for example, when I had my GP placement I read "Confessions of a GP"; When I was in obs/gyne I read "This is going to hurt", When I was in Neuro I read "The man who mistook his wife for a hat" by Sacks (I don't think I would have liked this book if I wasn't studying neurology at the time)
4. Podcasts: I would always try to find podcasts related to my exams, I listened to every episode of 'Behind the Knife' before my Surgery exam, and it helped so much! It's especially useful when you have long transits and can't do much else.
If you're not in medicine, this post can still apply to you! If you are for example a writer, maybe a movie like 'Freedom writers' or 'Midnight in Paris' can help get the juices flowing?!
Perhaps books like 'On writing by King', Woolf's 'A Writer's Diary', Shafak's 'Black Milk' and 'Make Good art' by Neil Gaiman can help? (I haven't read these yet, maybe you can give a better recommendation?
Heck maybe even a movie like legally blonde can help spark some motivation into a future lawyer 😆
