Jean-Jacques Rousseau's view of the Social Contract is that people are generally born good, but corrupted by society. Summed up in his quote that 'man is born free, but is everywhere in chains." Rousseau believed that people should surrender their individual desires for what's best for the general will of society.

VIEW OF ROUSSEAU: Rousseau explained his views in his book 'Social Contract' which are as follow:

(1) STATE OF NATURE:
According to Rousseau, state of nature was the ideal period in human history. It was the Golden age in man's life. Men was self sufficient, contended, fearless and enjoyed liberty in the state of nature. He said that in state of nature man was neither moral nor immoral but amoral, i.e, noble savage.

(2) SOCIAL CONTRACT:
He said that peaceful and happy life of the individual was disturbed with the development of private property which gave the birth of quarrels and disputes in the Society. Therefore people concluded the social contract to get rid from bad Conditions of the life. They surrendered all their powers not to any person but to the General Will of the society.

(3) RELATION BETWEEN RULER AND RULED:
According to Rousseau, Outcome of the social contract is Democracy because supreme power was given to the General Will.
