"Bigfoot" or "Sasquatch" has been spotted in Arkansas numerous times over the years.
The creature has become something of an icon in the state. It serves as a team mascot for the Northwest Arkansas Naturals, is commemorated with a statue in Bentonville, and greets tourists in Cane Hill. A bigfoot sighting was reported in Dutch Mills in Washington County in 1977. A man named Ed Bailey said the creature broke into his milk house and left claw marks and tracks.
The most famous sasquatch sighting in Arkansas is probably the "Fouke Monster."
In 1971, a Texarkana family said they were attacked by a mysterious creature. The incident inspired the "Legend of Boggy Creek" film trilogy.
But the Fouke Monster is far from the only sasquatch-like creature in the state.
Sightings of the "Arkansas Wild Man" date back to at least 1834. People then thought the creature might be a human who survived the 1811-1812 New Madrid Earthquake and turned wild.
More recently, "The Bigfoot Organization" held a meeting in Alma in 2016 after stories of sightings nearby.
In 2017, actor Rob Lowe told of an encounter with the "Wood Ape" in the Ozarks. Lowe and his sons were camping out to investigate the creature for an A&E show.
So, is a sasquatch or "bigfoot" lurking somewhere in Arkansas? Have you ever had an encounter?
