Gigafactory Texas on 19 March 2023! This is where Model Y’s are built and soon Cyber Truck production will start!
Today I visited the Boring Company and SpaceX site in Bastrop, so decided to also fly at Giga Texas to make up a little for missing my Friday flight due to high winds.
There are a lot of significant changes on the south end, including crews working on and nearly completing the underground corrugated pipe storm water bypass. This frees up most of the area for construction.
Also, to help facilitate the construction, we see the asphalt road along the south end of the main building is now being removed across the entire width of the building! In addition, either related to the south end construction or for interior General Assembly production line expansion work, we see a new development with the 3rd floor window removal! This is not entirely unexpected, but surprising nonetheless as I have heard the south wall may be removed, but the recent white staining seemed to indicate this plan has changed. This is something of interest to keep an eye on!

In the video introduction, I talk about an interesting personal milestone for me while I’ve been flying over Giga Texas these past 32 months. I’ve now flown 5,491 miles (~8,837 Km) with my two main drones (DJI Mavic Ari 2 and Mini 2), which is more than far enough to fly from Giga Texas all the way to Giga Berlin, some 5,392 miles (~8,677 Km)! According to my DJI App, I’ve flown over 505 hours and almost 2000 flights over the Tesla factory site and the nearby Boring Company and SpaceX sites in and around Austin, Texas.
Also, I discuss a recent interview I had with Herbert Ong, with a detailed look at construction at Giga Texas, Lessons Learned and Observations and how these may be applied to the upcoming construction of Giga Mexico. This is a great way to learn about nearly 3 years of construction with my own observations and additional information thrown in as well. Here is the video link and I would recommend you take a look!

Here are some (but not all) other items we discuss and also what you will see in the video:
The west main entrance area continues to see a lot of removal of plants, gravel and underlying black mesh and what appears to be the start of resumed construction too. I expect to see more work to complete the concrete cyber berms and possibly lighting systems to go with it.
The electrical switchyard south end continues to get more footings as well as some new steel assembly.
Further south and east of the switchyard, we see more water pipe trenching along Tesla Road.
At the Die Shop, more concrete wall panes have been installed. Inside, we see continued work on the west side deep foundation and on the east side, one of the bridge cranes is getting a water weight test and calibration!
