uttarkashi tunnel rescue operation 41 trapped workers live blog updates
The rescue operation at the Uttarkashi tunnel collapse site in Uttarakhand is expected to be over by today as efforts to get the 41 workers, who have been trapped for more than 200 hours, are in the final stage. The drilling work using the American auger machine resumed after several of halt due to a technical snag on late Thursday night. The platform on which the equipment is mounted developed cracks.
The rescue team needs to drill 60 metres to reach the trapped workers, of which 46 metres have been done. A 14-metre stretch now remains, and former PMO Advisor Bhaskar Khulbe told India Today this morning that the next five metres meant to be drilled are not expected to offer any hurdle.
Though officials have not shared a certain timeline for the rescue of the trapped men, it is expected the workers could be out by today.
