After a long pandemic related waiting process, the late and much loved Adolfo "Shabba Doo/Ozone" Quinones was honored with a Honorary Street Sign, dedicated in front of one of his childhood schools - Mancel Talcott Elementary School, and just steps from his childhood Positive Place, the Union League Boys and Girls Club Two, which now operates as the Wolcott School in May, 2023. Talcott School is located at 1840 W Ohio Street, and the Wolcott School is located at 524 N Wolcott Avenue in the West Town community of Chicago. Pride, Appreciation, Gratitude and Respect sent to Adolfo's family - particularly his brother Eric Vaughn-Smith, and his son, Vashawn Quinones for their support throughout the process, and to Chicago Alderman Daniel La Spata, who championed the cause at Chicago's City Council, and who also sponsored a resolution designating May 11th as Adolfo "Shabba Doo" Quinones Day in the City of Chicago previously. Appreciation also to Valencia Dantzler for her support. I am so very proud to have been a part of this movement, as Adolfo was a personal friend and multi-time radio interview guest of mine. In fact, during one of those interviews, Adolfo and I spoke of a Street Sign Dedication Ceremony for Chicago's Legendary Don Cornelius of "Soul Train" fame, and Adolfo shared that he would be honored, if ever he was blessed to receive a street sign in his honor. With hard work, great communication and patience, our collective efforts paid off, and the video footage is here to be seen by all. The ceremony was attended by a number of Adolfo's family members, which was the ultimate blessing. Please enjoy, comment, and share so that others may also enjoy this tribute to one of Chicago's Very Own stories of success.
Thank you to Valentin Rodriguez for producing this video documenting a very special community event...
