There are still 650 million people living without access to electricity across Africa. #EnergyAccess is crucial to driving economic growth and lifting millions of people out of poverty.
Yet dreams to connect every home and village across the African continent with clean, affordable energy will never be met without the workforce to drive an energy revolution. This effort needs engineers and technicians, but also people with the soft skills to fill crucial roles from marketing and IT to finance and customer support. There’s an urgent need to create new renewable energy jobs now – the entire continent of Africa currently has just 76,000.
African innovators are already working to skill up young people in the right ways, not only solving a huge unemployment challenge, but boosting energy security and food security, and creating jobs that are fortified against a future of climate impacts.
The future looks bright if we can get this right.
