A friendly reminder that the Coffee ’n’ Coaches Conference Call is at 6am EST Thursday morning. The link will be on my professional Facebook page about 30 minutes before the call.
Controversy! [my shout out to Prince!]
What should your shoulder blades be doing when you bench press?
Is this like one of those knees in vs. knees out things in a squat?
There is an answer and you may not like it.
Hope your @neurocoffee is strong. If your scapulae are not doing the right thing, you may not be strong.
From Tariq:
Sir, I hope you are having a great year. Your instagram/youtube posts are absolutely game changing and contain some of the most amazing and cutting edge information. Thank you for putting so much content out there.
My question is with regards to bench press for the non-powerlifter: as in, people who just want to be able to use bench press for hypertrophy purposes and not necessarily to lift the most amount of weight. There is a lot of debate out there in the fitness industry these days as to whether shoulder blades should be allowed to move during a bench press. What is your take on the scapular position/freedom in the bench press for the trainee looking primarily to use this for hypertrophy? Is there a preferred way to do this that can potentially reduce the compressive strategy associated with 'down and back' position of the scapula that is generally advised for lifting the maximum amount of weight?
