Sleeping sickness is prevalent in 19 African countries. More than 80% of patients live in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Sleeping sickness affects poor, often marginalized and rural populations, prolonging a vicious circle of disease and poverty. Conflict has helped spread this deadly disease by disrupting health systems and forcing people to flee.
