We are on the home stretch of our season long tribute to the 1970-1971 television season, and we have arrived at one of our childhood favorites... Family Affair. The show had a very warm, family-in-the-city vibe to it, and was in many ways the last of its kind. We did a tribute in early March to mark the 50th anniversary to the day of the final broadcast airing of the last episode of the series on CBS primetime television, and promised we'd return in May to do a more complete review... here we are.
The 1970-1971 season was the transitional season that brought us two families in the city... the Bunkers of All in the Family and the Davis' of Family Affair. The two shows could not have been more different, but for time, they shared the same CBS primetime lineup, and that makes them, and that season, very special.
Family Affair ran for five seasons, from 1966 to 1971, and like That Girl, both span that very interesting and important time of change in America. Debuting on September 12, 1966, the show road off into the sunset on March 4, 1971.
