Hotan Prefecture is situated on the edge of China's largest desert - the Taklimakan Desert. The region receives an average 2,800 hours of sunshine every year, allowing the vast expanses of land to be used to develop the solar power industry.
The State Power Investment Corporation is one of several companies to invest in the industrial park. Its 200 MW projects became fully operational in February this year. 1300 hectares of facilities have been completed so far, with a capacity of 660,000 KW.
The green energy projects have helped create employment for local people.
Among them is electrician Abdureshit Jamal. Every day, he and his colleagues ensure the power station is operating as it should.
China's Ministry of Natural Resources has encouraged local officials in China to develop the solar power industry using uncultivated land, including the vast desert areas... and that they do so while protecting the environment.
