After 11 years of visiting/living in Medellín, I finally made it to Comuna 13, and it was absolutely worth the wait. I captured a 4K video journey beginning from the far end of the Comuna, all the way back to the starting point. Stay with me throughout the entire video to truly discover the essence of Comuna 13.
Comuna 13, also known as San Javier, stands as one of the 16 communes that make up the city of Medellín, Colombia. It is home to approximately 160,000 residents. This neighborhood has become well-known for its vibrant street art, graffiti, and lively atmosphere, embodying resilience and energy. Despite its current allure, Comuna 13's history is marked by periods of violence and insecurity related to drug trafficking, paramilitary activities, and controversial military operations. Today, it has transformed into a significant tourist destination and a fundamental part of community tourism in Medellín, benefiting from investments in infrastructure and social programs.
