It Happened!

The Volstead Act, or the National Prohibition Act, came into effect on January 17, 1920, marking the start of the Prohibition Era in the U.S. This law enforced the 18th Amendment, which banned the manufacture, sale, and transportation of alcoholic beverages. Despite the legislation, Prohibition was hard to enforce due to increased illegal activities like bootlegging and the rise of speakeasies(illegal drinking spots). The resulting rise in crime led to decreased support for Prohibition, and it ended with the ratification of the 21st Amendment on December 5, 1933.
