Today is Christmas Day. Christianity is the largest religion on the planet today. Many billions of people and throughout the world, especially throughout the Western world, today is considered the holiest of all holy days, the day when it is celebrated that Jesus Christ appeared on earth. Why did he appear on earth? Srila Prabhupäda tells us he is a shaktyavesh-avatar. He descended from the kingdom of God to this world simply to show compassion to other living beings. And in order to transform people’s hearts, he was willing to accept and endure unbelievable blasphemy, criticism, persecution, and ultimately torture, severe torture. Following in the footsteps of all great Vaiñëavas, he was willing to do so. Therefore, Srila Prabhupäda, on several occasions, told Christians, “Jesus Christ is our Guru because he has so much exemplified the spirit of Guru paramparä.”
