Twelfth Street Rag (Bowman) by Pee Wee Hunt & his Orchestra
By some calculations, this catchy Dixieland-flavored jazz standard was the most popular record of 1948 (8 weeks at #1, 23 weeks in the top-10, and 32 weeks on Billboard’s singles charts). Between 1929 and 1943, Walter ‘Pee Wee’ Hunt had been a valued member of Glen Gray’s Casa Loma Orchestra as trombonist and vocalist. Four of his Casa Loma vocals are posted to this channel: “When I Take My Sugar To Tea” “Fare Thee Well Annabelle” “I May Be Wrong (But I Think You’re Wonderful)” and “(Gotta Get Some) Shut Eye.”
