Game #2 on our list of 51 Worldwide Classics is Dots And Boxes, a pencil-and-paper game that I'm sure we've all played in school at least once. In this game, two players take turns drawing lines connecting two adjacent dots on a rectangular grid. The size of the grid may vary from game to game, from 2x2 to 3x3 to the grid used in this version which is 6x4. The player that connects the fourth side of a 1x1 square on the grid scores one point and gets another turn. The game ends when all of the squares have been filled in and there are no more lines to draw, and at that point the player who filled in the most boxes wins the game.
There are four levels of CPU players: Normal, Hard, Amazing, and Impossible. Beat Impossible mode to master the game. Also, the game keeps track of your high score, and each time you play it, you can unlock a piece of trivia about the game. There are four pieces of trivia about Dots And Boxes:
1. This is a popular game to play in school since everyone already has a pencil and paper.
2. The reason most pencils are hexagonal is because it makes them easy to grip and ensures they don't roll away.
3. Erasers used to be made of rubber, but lately it's more common to make them from plastic.
4. Back before rubber erasers, people would use bread.
