A Cool Scale For Playing Over A 2-5-1 - Gypsy Jazz Guitar Secrets Lesson
Here’s a cool sound you can get in your solos when you’re playing over a 2-5-1 progression.
I use this scale often when I play over the A section of ‘Honeysuckle Rose’ where the chords go between Gm7 and C7.
It also sounds good in ‘Coquette’ where you have Em7 to A7 in the A section.
Here’s how you do it:
1. ‘Honeysuckle Rose’ Gm7 / C7 play an F minor harmonic scale
2. ‘Coquette’ Em7 / A7 play a D minor harmonic scale
The concept of playing the Minor harmonic scale over the 2-5 chords is a great start but don’t be limited to only the notes from the scale. Use it as a springboard to introduce some wild and wonderful new sounds into your solos!
