Infants with functional gastrointestinal disorders: can we help?
Speaker: Prof. S. Koletzko
Presented at: ESPGHAN 42nd Annual Meeting, Budapest
Gastrointestinal disorders including regurgitation, constipation and colic are a common occurrence in infants, with some studies reporting these in over half of infants under the age of 6 months. How can we help these infants and their parents cope with these symptoms? Although we have a greater insight into the biochemical and physiological characteristics of each disorder, the line between normal and abnormal states is blurry. In attempting to come up with some practical solutions, Dr. Sibylle Koletzko discusses each gastrointestinal problem and reveals some of the latest findings from clinical trials. She concludes by providing specific recommendations for parents and pediatricians who face these frequently-occurring conditions in young babies.
