Former Defense Secretary Jim Mattis on Thursday told PBS NewsHour’s anchor and managing editor Judy Woodruff that he believes President Donald Trump can be trusted with the nuclear codes. “The responsibility that lies” with the office of president is “a very grave one,” Mattis said, clarifying that he has not heard that “there was some irresponsibility there.” The former defense secretary, who submitted his resignation to Trump in December, said that he realizes "we have an unusual president and he-- and he talks openly about many things.”
